ACS Board Winter Meeting

The annual winter meeting of the American Conifer Society Board of Directors met in Tampa, FL, February 1, 2014. ACS President Larry Nau welcomed David Olyszk (Lacy, WA) as the new director from the Western Region, replacing Doug Wilson (Salem, OR); and Bill Barger (Wadsworth, OH) replacing Steve Courtney (Maple Grove, MN) of the Central Region who became National Office Business Manager late last year.

Among the items that came before the Board and were voted upon were the creation of a student membership, increasing the award for the Jean Iseli Memorial Grant to $4,000 a year and researching the viability of an on-line member auction.

"Today's meeting was one of the most forward thinking, bold and productive meetings the Society has experienced in a number of years," said ACS President Larry Nau. "I am pleased with the BOD's determination to cover over 24 agenda items in just about 10 hours. The result was spirited discussions and significant progress on many projects. They positively engaged several topics that have challenged previous Boards. Thank you to each member for giving up their weekend to participate and for producing such outstanding results."
