Bay Area Garden Party with SFBG Plant Experts
Date: Sunday, October 24, 11:00 AM - Sunday, October 24, 2021, 2:00 PM
Place: 909 Mustang Ct , Petaluma, CA 94954
NOTE CHANGE OF TIME!
Join San Francisco Botanical Garden's Ryan Guillou, curator, and Vanessa Handley, director, for a walkabout, talkabout and lunch in the gardens of the Circle Oak Ranch, home of ACS member and website editor, Sara Malone. There will not be a formal program, but the theme will be a term coined by Vanessa, when she was Director of Collections at UC Berkeley Botanical Garden: California Cottage. California Cottage refers to the proclivity that we have in the Bay Area, due to our mild, Mediterranean climate, of planting all kinds of plants in combinations that are rarely seen elsewhere. We will also be joined by members of SFBG's collections and horticulture staffs.
The gardens at Circle Oak Ranch comprise approximately four acres, with over 2000 distinct taxa, over 700 of which are conifers. Sara does not hesitate to interplant succulents, cacti and many interesting and unusual hardwoods with the conifers.
We will first tour the gardens for an hour or so, then enjoy a build-your-own taco bar. Anyone wanting to continue to enjoy the gardens after lunch is welcome to do so.
Fee is $10/person to cover refreshments.
Questions? Email Sara.
Hope to see you there!
