June 11- Hypertufa Demonstration, Conifer Walk and Garden Tour– June 11th, 10 am-2 pm Cairnsgrove Gardens & Apiary, Pottstown, PA- Registration is required - Rebecca Boylan: [email protected]

Hypertufa, ceramic pots, chickens, and beehives take center stage in the gardens of Rebecca and Dan Boylan. Rebecca has been making hypertufa pots for over 30 years, and Dan has over 50 beehives in six bee yards within twelve miles of the gardens. They’ve been gardening here for over 33 years, and all the trees, shrubs, and perennials were planted by the couple. Rebecca is fond of woody plants, the weirder the better. Over the years those woody plants have created shade and introduced over 400 Hostas, dozens of ferns, Epimediums, and unusual shade lovers. Little room for sun exists, but where there is, conifers take root. Many miniature and dwarf conifers are planted in troughs and pots, and last fall we removed an 80-foot row of Spiraea along the driveway and planted a garden of miniature and dwarf conifers which have thrived.

Other highlights of the gardens include a pond, two stumperies, and a row of metasequoias. Japanese maples are scattered throughout the gardens in both pots and the ground. Clematis are planted wherever the sun can be found and there are even a few in part-shade and pots. Some of the larger conifers make great trellises for the smaller flowered cultivars. So come and join us for a hypertufa demonstration at 10 am and a garden tour following. Honey, beeswax candles, beeswax hand cream, and all-natural soap will be available for sale. Lunch will be provided by the Boylans, but desserts are welcome. Bring a chair, and there are many scattered throughout the garden. Please carpool if possible as parking is available but limited.
