Tsuga mertensiana 'Bump's Blue' / Bump's Blue Mountain hemlock

Tsuga mertensiana 'Bump's Blue' is an exceptionally narrow, irregular upright selection of Mountain hemlock with short, somewhat pendulous branches and bright powder-Blue, radiating needles, presenting an impressive Alpine look in the garden. After 10 years, a mature specimen will measure 5 feet (1.5 m) tall and 2 feet (60 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of 4 to 6 inches (10 - 15 cm).

This cultivar originated in the late 1950s, in the wild, on the slopes of Mt. Hood, Oregon. Dr. Forest Bump of Forest Grove, Oregon collected the plant and Buchholz nursery of Gaston, Oregon introduced it to the nursery trade as part of their signature, Flora Wonder™ collection.
