Tsuga chinensis var. robusta

Tsuga chinensis var. robusta, first described in 1975 by W. C. Cheng & L. K. Fu in W. C. Cheng et al. is known as 大果铁杉 (da guo tie shan) in the Chinese language. It is probably the most universally recognized of the myriad varieties of this species.

T. c. var. robusta differs from the typical variety in the following ways:

Distribution. This variety is native to China — western Hubei (Badong Xian) and western Sichuan provinces (Yalong Jiang valley) growing in the mountains at elevations of circa 6,000 feet (1,800 m) above sea level.
