Thuja occidentalis ‘Techny’

Thuja occidentalis

Thuja occidentalis 'Techny' is a compact, conical selection of Arborvitae with dense branching holding rich, dark-green foliage that does not bronze, even in parts of the world with very cold winters. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 10 feet (3 m) tall and 5 feet (1.8 m) wide, an annual growth rate of 12 inches (30 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the late 1960s at Mission Gardens, Techny, Illinois, USA. Gerd Krussmann first described it in 1972 in his book, Manual of Cultivated Conifers.
