Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Pinus mugo ‘Mops’

Pinus mugo 'Mops' is a very popular dwarf selection of Mugo pine with dense branching and medium green needles. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 28 inches (70 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 2 to 3 inches (5 - 7.5 cm). A popular feature of this conifer is its propensity to create witch's brooms. Scores of named "Mops brooms" exist in the nursery trade, many of which are stable and garden-worthy.

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in 1951 by Hugo F. Hooftman Nursery, Boskoop, The Netherlands.
