Conifer Trees Database

Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Established in 1983, our mission is centered on advocating for the integration of conifer trees in garden designs and landscapes. We are dedicated to educating enthusiasts and the general public about the proper care, cultivation, and conservation of these majestic and diverse evergreens.

Pinus mugo ‘Aries’

Pinus mugo subsp. rotundata 'Aries' is a dwarf, flattened bun-form of Mountain pine with shorter, gray-green needles, 0.6 - 0.8 inches (1.5 - 2 cm) long. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will only measure 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 16 inches (40 cm) wide, a growth rate of slightly more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) per year.

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in the Czech Republic long ago. It is unknown who the finder was. It is listed as #14 in the San Sebastian series of Mountain pines, a collection of 1000s of broom selections made by scores of Eastern European conifer professionals and hobbyists.
