Pinus koraiensis 'Blue Ball' / Blue Ball Korean pine

Pinus koraiensis 'Blue Ball' is a dwarf, globose selection of Korean pine with striking bright blue foliage. Annual growth is very uniform throughout the plant, growing about 1.5 inches (4 cm) in all directions per year, resulting in a "blue ball," 15 inches (40 cm) tall and wide after 10 years in the garden. This plant is an excellent choice for the rockery or small garden because of its tidy appearance and slow rate of growth.

This is a witch's broom selection made by G.D. Böhlje nursery, Westerstede, Germany in the early 2000s. The original broom ortet was found in a specimen of P. koraiensis 'Silveray.' This cultivar is sometimes seen listed as 'Böhlje HB,' which is quite likely a provisional name.
