Pinus heldreichii ‘Clumpleaf’

Pinus heldreichii

Pinus heldreichii 'Clumpleaf' is a curious selection of Bosnian pine. It's overall form is irregular upright with random branching and fused, dark-green, contorted needles, some of which are straight while others of curved and twisted. Some look like fishhooks and other may even look like corkscrews. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 18 inches (45 cm) tall and 12 inches (30 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of around 2 inches (5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the late 1980s at Iseli Nursery Inc. Boring, Oregon, USA.
