Pinus banksiana'Tear Drop' is a low, mounding dwarf selection of Jack pine with short, dense, twisted, dark-green foliage. It's rate of growth is fairly slow, only about 1.5 to 2.5 inches (3 - 4 cm) per year. At maturity, a plant in the garden should measure 2 feet (60 cm) wide and less than 1 foot (30 cm) tall.
This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in 2001 by Chub Harper along a highway right-of-way near Fulton, Illinois. He described the original broom as, "small, spreading, and hanging-tight." It is commonly seen misspelled with the name 'Teardrop.'
