Pinus banksiana 'Prairie Union' is an irregular upright to globose dwarf selection of Jack pine with dense dark green foliage and typical foliage for the species. Typical rate of growth for this plant most areas is 3 to 4 inches (7.5 - 10 cm) per year making for a mature plant of 36 inches (90 cm) tall and slightly less wide after 10 years in the garden.

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in 2001 by Justin 'œChub' Harper (1928 - 2009) of Moline, Illinois at Prairie-Union Cemetery, Low Moor, Iowa. He described the broom as, "medium size and height, compact, nice."
