Picea pungens ‘Blue Pearl’

Picea pungens 'Blue Pearl' is a miniature, flattened-globose selection of Colorado spruce with stubby, radiating branching and species-typical, sky blue needles. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 6 inches (15 cm) tall and 12 inches (30 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of 1 inch (2.5 cm) or less.

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in the late 1980s on a specimen of P. pungens 'Fat Albert' at Iseli Nursery, Boring, Oregon, USA. It is also occasionally seen named 'Fat Albert WB' which was likely a provisional name.

'Blue Pearl' is is one of seven selections made in 2019 for the popular ACS Collectors' Conifer of the Year Program.
