Picea glauca 'Metzger Broom' / Metzger Broom white spruce

The original broom and mother tree was moved into the Heartland Collection in the fall of 1989. In 2002, the original broom had died because of shading and lack of sunlight from the mother tree despite continual pruning of the mother tree. At that time the original tree was also removed. Fortunately, the propagation from the original witch's broom lives on and is thriving only a short distance from where the original mother tree was located in the Arboretum.

Picea glauca (Metzger Broom) WB This photo was taken at Bickelhaupt Arboretum located in Clinton, IA in their 'Heartland Collection of Garden Conifers' during late October of 2005.
