Picea abies ‘Well's Green Globe’

Picea abies

Picea abies 'Wells Green Globe' is a compact dwarf, globose selection of Norway spruce with dense, symmetrical, somewhat layered branches and medium green foliage. Older plants will develop a bit of apical dominance, becoming densely conical after 15-20 years. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 3 to 4 feet (1 - 1.3 m) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 3 to 5 inches (7.5 - 12 cm).

This cultivar originated in the late 1970s at Wells Nursery, Mt. Vernon, Washington, USA. Robert L. Fincham of Coenosium Gardens promoted it, making it more available in the nursery trade.
