Picea abies ‘Ripley Broom’

Picea abies

Picea abies 'Ripley Broom' is a miniature globose selection of Norway spruce with exceptionally dense branches and thin, tiny, dark-green needles. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 4 inches (10 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of less than 1 inch (1 cm).

In spite of being fairly well known in the European nursery trade, this cultivar is of unknown origin. Clearly, based on its name, the plant originated as a witch's broom.
