Picea abies 'Nana Compacta' is a dwarf, flattened globose, bushy selection of Norway spruce with dense branches that are distinctively fastigiate in the plant's upper regions. The radially arranged needles are dark green in color; and dense, stiff and prickly to the touch. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 3 feet (1 m) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 3 to 4 inches (7.5 - 10 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the 1940s at Herm. A. Hesse nurseries, Weener on Ems, Germany.
