Picea abies 'Midland No. 2' / Midland No. 2 Norway Spruce

Picea abies 'Midland No. 2' is a miniature, globose selection of Norway spruce with dense symmetrical branches holding finely textured, light gray-green needles. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 8 inches (20 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of an inch (2.5 cm) or less. This cultivar originated as a witch's broom seedling, raised and selected by Chub Harper and Randy Dykstra of Fulton, Illinois. They selected three seedlings and named the others 'Midland No. 1' and 'Midland No. 3.' It is unknown whether or not they all exist in single collection or whether they are distinctive enough to be significant.
