Juniperus chinensis 'Robusta Green' / Robust Green Chinese juniper

Acccording to Monrovia Nursery, the Robust Green Chinese juniper is a versatile and durable landscape addition ideal for accent, windbreak or screen for narrow spaces. Its rugged, irregular columnar form holds handsome, tufted bright green foliage.

Juniperus chinensis 'Robusta Green' is an irregular, upright selection of Chinese juniper that grows with a mix of gray-green juvenile and adult foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 6 feet (2 m) tall and 4.5 feet (1.5 m) wide, an annual growth rate of 6 to 8 inches (15 - 20 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in 1973 by Monrovia Nursery, Inc., Azusa, California, USA. In 1992, J. Lewis proposed in The International Conifer Registry, vol. 3 that 'Robust Green' should be the correct cultivar name to resolve the Latinized form that was disallowed as of 1959. However current guidelines permit the continued use of 'Robusta Green.'

cultivar: 'Robusta Green' - might you folks be able to advise me re the appeal of the bark to rabbits ... Looking for relatively rabbit-proof species for the Vermont winter. Thanks. RA

The only reason that this conifer appeals to rabbits is because it must taste good.

In order to figure out what they don't like, look around your neighborhood. The preferred palette for rabbits and deer is extremely local.

I would like to plant a robusta green juniper in a bed that is just 4 ft wide between the house and walkway in central massachusetts. Will it be manageable and that space with pruning? It is a pretty hot location during the summer months as it will receive reflective heat from the house and walkway. Thank you for your input
