Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Established in 1983, our mission is centered on advocating for the integration of conifer trees in garden designs and landscapes. We are dedicated to educating enthusiasts and the general public about the proper care, cultivation, and conservation of these majestic and diverse evergreens.

Juniperus chinensis ‘Armstrongii’

aka Juniperus chinensis 'Pfitzeriana Nana'

Juniperus chinensis 'Armstongii'

While this plant is currently noted in the Conifer Society index as 'chinensis' I have noted that Humphrey Welch and Gordon Haddow in 'The World Checklist of Conifers' refer the reader forward to Juniperus X media for a description of 'Armstrongii'. In any event the plant that I have submitted for a picture is a mature specimen displayed at the Dawes Arboretum in the USA. (Submitted by Ken Church)

It is quite an attractive plant with a mounding center and would appear to be reasonably disciplined in growth in width and height and perhaps a useful plant for the collector.

The description given in the World Checklist of Conifers states that the plant has been available since 1932. It was formerly known as 'Pfitzeriana Nana'. Small, light green lacy foliage, branches slightly arching' and originating at Armstrong nursery in Ontario, Canada.
