Conifer Trees Database

Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Established in 1983, our mission is centered on advocating for the integration of conifer trees in garden designs and landscapes. We are dedicated to educating enthusiasts and the general public about the proper care, cultivation, and conservation of these majestic and diverse evergreens.

Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Shiva’

Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Shiva' is primarily valued in the landscape or garden for its ornamental upright and spreading habit of growth. It has attractive bluish-green evergreen foliage which emerges silvery blue in spring. The scale-like sprays of foliage are highly ornamental and turn coppery-bronze in the fall, which persists throughout the winter. It lends an extremely fine and delicate texture to the landscape composition which can make it a great accent feature on this basis alone.

Shiva Atlantic white cypress is a relatively low maintenance shrub. When pruning is necessary, it is recommended to only trim back the new growth of the current season, other than to remove any dieback. The cultivar requires full sun to partial shade and moist, fertile soil with good drainage. However, it tolerates soil that is occasionally wet. Shelter it from strong winds. Propagate it by grafting or root cutting.
