Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Verkade's Sunburst’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Verkade's Sunburst' is a miniature bun of golden spring foliage that fades to lime green throughout the growing season. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 12 inches (30 tall) and wide, an annual growth rate of around 1 inch (2.5). This is an excellent selection for a small rock garden or trough planting particularly where a contrast in color is desired.

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the mid-1980s by J. Verkade Nursery, Asbury, New Jersey. One often see the cultivar name shortened to simply 'Sunburst.'
