Conifer Trees Database

Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Established in 1983, our mission is centered on advocating for the integration of conifer trees in garden designs and landscapes. We are dedicated to educating enthusiasts and the general public about the proper care, cultivation, and conservation of these majestic and diverse evergreens.

Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Thoweil’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Thoweil' is a narrowly upright, naturally sculpted selection of Hinoki cypress with irregular branching, densely cloaked with deep-green scalloped foliage. Individual specimens make for an exceptional focal point in the garden or a very suitable container plant. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 6 feet (2 m) tall and 2 feet (60 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of 4 to 6 inches (20 - 30 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the mid 2010s by Iseli Nursery, Inc., Boring, Oregon, USA. The cultivar name is an anagram, coined by ACS Founder, Eddie Rezek, honoring two noted Dutch plantsmen, Thom de Lange and Wiel Linssen (note the ironic misspelling).
