Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Teddy Bear’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Teddy Bear' is an upright, broadly conical selection of Hinoki cypress with sparse, open branching, holding irregular, quadrangular sprays of deep, right-green foliage. It can be described as a green version of C. obtusa 'Fernspray Gold', or 'Filicoides'. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 36 - 40 inches (80 - 100 cm) tall, an annual growth rate of 3.5 - 4 inches (8 - 10 cm). Routine shearing is recommended to tighten up the foliage, keeping the plant more compact.

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the early 1990s by Esveld Nursery, Boskoop, The Netherlands.
