Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Sunproof Dwarf’

Chamaecyparis obtusa

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Sunproof Dwarf' is a dwarf selection of Hinoki cypress that was selected for exceptional resistance to sun and heat. Its golden foliage, unlike that of similar cultivars like, 'Nana Lutea' will not burn in full sun. It grows at a yearly rate of 2 to 4 inches (5 - 10 cm), making a 10 year plant 3 feet (1 cm) tall and slightly narrower at maturity.

The origin of this cultivar is currently unknown, although alleged to have been selected by a small nursery in the southeastern U.S.
