Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Repens’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Repens' is a slow-growing, mounding, spreading selection of Hinoki cypress with attractive, fresh green fans of foliage. Mature specimens will be somewhat similar to Ch. obtusa 'Pygmaea,' but 'Repens' is a bit faster growing and won't grow quite as tall. After 10 years of growth a specimen will measure 1.5 to 2 feet (50 - 60 cm) tall and 28 to 32 inches (70 - 80 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of 2 to 3 inches (5 - 7.5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a branch mutation found in 1949 on a specimen of Ch. obtusa 'Nana Gracilis' by William Hage Nursery, Boskoop, The Netherlands.
