Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Rainbow’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Rainbow' is an irregular, upright, vase-shaped selection of Hinoki cypress with dark green cup-shaped sprays of foliage highlighted by butter-yellow variegation, that shifts to bronze gold in winter in colder climates. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 8 inches (20 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of around 1 inch (2.5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected by J. le Conte, and introduced to the nursery trade by M & J Kristick
