Conifer Trees Database

Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Established in 1983, our mission is centered on advocating for the integration of conifer trees in garden designs and landscapes. We are dedicated to educating enthusiasts and the general public about the proper care, cultivation, and conservation of these majestic and diverse evergreens.

Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Moonshine’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Moonshine' is an upright, globose selection of Hinoki cypress with tight uniform branching and dark-green sprays of foliage splashed with creamy white variegation. This conifer will look its best when planted in a morning sun/partial shade situation. This treatment will prevent the white foliage from burning. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 12 to 18 inches (30 - 45 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the late 1990s by Talon Buchholz and introduced by Buchholz and Buchholz nursery, Gaston Oregon as part of the Flora Wonder„¢ collection.
