Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Established in 1983, our mission is centered on advocating for the integration of conifer trees in garden designs and landscapes. We are dedicated to educating enthusiasts and the general public about the proper care, cultivation, and conservation of these majestic and diverse evergreens.

Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Lucas’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Lucas' is a very attractive, dwarf, globose selection of Hinoki cypress with arching branches holding sprays of delicate, lacy, fern-like, flattened sprays of butter-yellow foliage that fade toward green at the centers of the sprays. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 5 feet (1.6 m) tall and 3 feet (1 m) wide, an annual growth rate of around 6 inches (15 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected by K.A. Koemans Nursery, Boskoop, The Netherlands.
