Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Hage' / Hage Hinoki cypress

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Hage' is broad, compact, miniature pyramidal selection of Hinoki cypress with distinctive cupped sprays of bright green foliage that becomes bronze-ish in winter in colder climates. It is superficially similar to Ch. obtusa 'Nana,' but is somewhat slower growing, more globose, denser and has brighter colored foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 16 inches (40 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 - 3 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in 1928 by William C. Hage & Company Nursery, Boskoop, The Netherlands.
