Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gitte' / Gitte Hinoki cypress

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gitte' is an attractive, cushion-shaped selection of Hinoki cypress with dense tangled branching, and heavy, filamentous, golden-yellow foliage with occasional fasciated tips. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 24 inches (60 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of 1 to 2 inches (2.5 - 5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a texture sport found in the early 2000s, on a specimen of C. obtusa 'Tsatsumi Gold' by Peet Schrauwen of Boomkwekerij Schrauwen-Moerings Nursery, Sprundel, The Netherlands. Peet named his selection in honor of his granddaughter.
