Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Ellie B' is an upright, round-topped miniature selection of Hinoki cypress with irregular, clumpy branching packed with dense, recurved sprays of bright-green foliage. It is superficially similar to C. obtusa 'Nana' but is a bit slower growing with a narrower profile. In winter, in colder climates, plants will assume bronze highlights.
After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 8 inches (20 cm) tall and half as wide, an annual growth rate of less than 1 inch (2.5 cm).
This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the late 1970s by Joel W. Spingarn, Baldwin, Long Island, New York.
