Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Brigitt’

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Brigitt' is an irregular globose selection of Hinoki cypress with upright branching and clumpy foliage consisting of thick, random, fasciated, gray-green foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 20 inches (50 cm) tall and 30 inches (75 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of around 2 inches (5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in the late 1980s on a specimen of C. obtusa 'Coraliformis', by David and Noeline Sampson of Cedar Lodge Nursery, New Plymouth, New Zealand. Misspellings abound in the nursery trade, the most commonly seen include, 'Brigitte' and 'Bridget'.
