Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Barkenny' / Barkenny Hinoki cypress

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Barkenny' is a very slow-growing, upright, egg-shaped selection of Hinoki cypress with dense branching and dark-green foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 8 inches (20 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of around 1 inch (2.5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the early 1980s by Joe Reis of Merritt, Long Island, New York.
