Abies pinsapo 'Marokko' is a fairly recently-released cultivar of Spanish fir. It is a dwarf, flattened bun with blue green needles, typical in size and arrangement for the species. Typical growth rate for most areas is 2 inches (5 cm) a year producing a spreading little conifer, measuring 6 inches (15 cm) tall and 20 inches (50 cm) wide after 10 years of in the garden. Because this is so new to the trade, it is impossible to say what its mature form will be.
Güsnther Eschrich of Recklinghausen, Germany found this and four other Abies pinsapo cultivars while on a brooming expedition in Morocco in the early 2000s. All were derived from witch's broom mutations found in a natural population of Spanish firs. Eschrich provisionally named 'Marokko,' #3. The other named varieties are 'Fatima' (#1), 'Atlas' (#2), and 'Tuarek' (#4). All of these selections are similar, yet distinct in their own way.
