Welcome to the American Conifer Society Database

Abies concolor ‘Rex’

Abies concolor 'Rex' is a diminutive, cushion-shaped selection of white fir with stubby, dense, radiating branches and foliage and grayish blue foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 8 to 12 inches (20 - 30 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 1 inch (2.5 cm) or less.

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found in the early 2000s by midwestern broom hunters Chub Harper, Randy Dykstra and Dave Horst. They found the original broom on the grounds of Rex Rohoer's residence in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
