Abies concolor ‘Kinky’

Abies concolor 'Kinky' is an unusual compact, upright selection of white fir with contorted branches and thin gray-green "kinky" needles. After 10 years of growth a mature specimen will stand 6 feet (1.8 m) tall and 3 feet (1 m) wide, an annual rate of growth of 6 to 8 inches (15 - 20 cm). Young propagated plants will tend to sprawl and be more or less amorphic over their first few years before establishing a leader and assuming proper form.

This cultivar originated as a random plant found and named in 1996 by Rich Eyre of Woodstock, Illinois, at a cemetery in Shelby, Iowa.
