Abies concolor ‘Dr. Kochlein's Seedling’

Abies concolor 'Dr. Kochlein's Seedling' is an obscure selection of white fir with gray-green foliage, and a somewhat irregular, layered form that will develop into a squat pyramidal shape as it matures. Typical rate of growth is 2 to 4 inches (5 - 10 cm) per year. After 10 years, a mature specimen will measure 4 feet (3.2 m) tall and 2.5 feet (0.8 m) wide.

The origin of this cultivar is speculative. Based on the cultivar name, it seems to be a special seedling selected by, or named for someone named, Dr. Kochlein. It is believed to have originated in the Czech Republic.
