Abies alba ‘Hedge’

Abies alba 'Hedge' is a miniature spreading selection of European silver fir with a depressed center and short stubby needles. Rate of growth is about 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 - 4 cm) per year more outward than upward, resulting in a tight nest-shaped specimen, 12 inches (30 cm) wide and 8 inches (20 cm) tall after 10 years in the garden.

Specific history of this cultivar is unknown at this time. It is believed to have originated in The Netherlands in the mid 2000s. It is sometimes seen listed under the cultivar name, 'Hiedge.'
