Abies alba ‘Columnaris’

Abies alba 'Columnaris' is tall and very slender, but not fastigiate; branches short, of equal length, and broader than usual. Probably more than one clone is now cultivated under this name. Much rarer than Abies alba 'Pyramidalis'.

Found before 1859 in the forest on Mt. Pila, France. (RHS Encyclopedia of Conifers, 2012) Described by the French horticulturist Carriere in 1859.
