Abieskoreana ‘Blauer Eskimo’
Abies koreana 'Blauer Eskimo' is a compact, globose fir with striking bright blue foliage. Commonly known in the trade as Blue Eskimo Korean Fir, this plant was discovered in Germany as a witch’s broom on Abies koreana ‘Blauer Pfiff’.
Gardener friendly, gardeners find the Blue Eskimo Korean Fir easier to grow than Abies procera ‘Blaue Hexe’, which has a similar shape, size, and color.
This dwarf fir features a rounded shape with short needles and color that adds contrast that makes it a winner in mixed conifer borders.
The beautifully colored needles are arranged in spiral fashion on stubby light-colored branches, with distinctive small brown resinous buds that form in winter.
An excellent rock garden addition that will perform best in full sun and moist well-drained soil.
