Sequoiadendron giganteum (21 Replies)

Yeah, it’s my understanding that Iseli is a strictly a wholesale distributer not a retail nursery. I contacted one of their reps by telephone (you can find the reps from their website). I called him and he gave me a list of nurseries and phone numbers of Iseli distributers in my area (upper Midwest). I called them and none of them was interested. One nursery near Elkhart, IN even told me that there is NO way a Sequoia could ever live here. They would die over the winter only to sprout out again from the roots in the spring and do that over and over. That is flat out-and-out not true but I didn’t want to argue with her. It sounded to me like she had a Sequoia Sempervirons in mind NOT Giganteum.

Any how, in the end it was the guy at the Crowfoot Nursery in Oregon who finally helped me out. If I’m not mistaken, I think it was someone on this list who gave me his name & number.

Fred M. Cain,
Topeka, IN

Yes the Crowfoot folks are wonderful – I sent them some Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Greenstead Magnificent’ cuttings that they are starting. And people at nurseries should no better than to say ‘NO’ so vehemently. It only makes the customer more determined!
