Ch. Thyoides Variegata (2 Replies)

Posted October 13, 2017 at 10:10 am

We bought a tree labeled ‘Variegata’ about 10 years ago. This name is in the conifer database but without much information. The database also has a cultivar named, ‘Variegated.’ Our tree seems to match the picture and description for ‘Variegated.’ Are these the same tree? Google search seems to favor the name ‘Variegata.’ The database reference to Stanley and Sons nursery and the picture seems to make the case for ‘Variegated.’

Hi Ed. Thanks for your help here. In this case, ‘Variegated’ is the wrong name. I corrected that record and while completing it, corrected the name to ‘Variegata,’ then disposed of the empty record. Thanks to your good eyes, we’ve completed the record for this plant. Take a look.

Thanks for the update. That’s a beautiful picture. I won’t send a picture of mine. I have had trouble with desiccation and I lose a lot of foliage in the winter. Then it bounces back strong in the summer. I have it in a wet spot which may be too wet. The ground must be like a block of ice well into spring. Time to try a new location maybe a foot or so higher.
