syn. Thorsen

[ Robert L. Fincham, Coenosium Gardens ] A completely prostrate selection that may be staked or allowed to grow over a wall or down a slope among rocks. It may be grown in the full sun and will grow at a rate of 4″-6″ per year.

Tsuga heterophylla ‘Thorsen’s Weeping’ will be either a completely prostrate or strict-weeping cultivar of Western Hemlock dependent on whether the grower stakes the plant upright or leaves it up to its own nature. Needles are a nice medium green with silvery undersides, branching is dense and very regular and structure is always pointing downward.

This is an American selection that has been in cultivation since the mid 1980s. At this time, very little is known of its origin.
