Pinus monophylla ‘Blue Jazz’ is a dwarf, tight, globose- to pyramidal selection of Singleleaf Piñon pine with dense, uniform branching and intensely blue foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 18 to 24 inches (45 – 60 cm) tall and wide, an annual growth rate of 1.5 to 2 inches (4.5 – 6 cm).
This conifer is an ideal choice for xeric landscaping. Full sun exposure with sharply drained soil is a must for all members of this species.
This cultivar originated as a witch’s broom found along a roadside in Nevada, by Jerry Morris of Colorado, USA. ‘Blue Jazz’ was selected in 2018 as the ACS Western Region’s featured conifer of the year.
