Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Coneybearii Aurea’ is a golden, weeping, thread-leaf selection of Monterey cypress. Young specimens require staking to develop apical dominance. Once established, it will become a striking, large, shaggy tree in the landscape. Typical rate of growth is about a foot (30 cm) per year resulting in a 10 foot (3m) tall and 5 foot (1.8m) wide tree after 10 years in the landscape.

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected by Woolich nursery, Victoria, Australia in the 1920s. The seedling was later purchased by Dr. Coneybear who named it for himself. Note that this is the same plant that is sometimes listed in the nursery trade as ‘Saligna Aurea.’
