Abies x arnoldiana ‘Poulsen’ is best described as a flat, spreading dwarf cultivar of Arnold fir, a cross of Abies koreana x Abies veitchii. ‘Poulsen’ is distinguished through its attractive bi-colored foliage and copious large purple seed cones, produced from an early age. Annual growth is 2 to 4 inches (5 – 10 cm), more outward than upward, producing an arching, flat mound 1 foot (30 cm) tall and 8 feet (2.4 m) wide  after 10 years of growth.

This cultivar originated as a seedling selected through deliberate cross-pollination attempts in 1983 at Poulsen Nursery, Copenhagen, Denmark.
