As announced at the conclusion of last month’s ACS winter Board of Directors meeting, it was voted that the Society create a new level of membership for qualified students enrolled in an accredited school of horticulture, forestry or plant science. The new membership level will be $10 a year, exclusive of receiving a hard copy of Conifer Quarterly but which will be available as a PDF document for downloading.
“Part of ACS’s mission is to educated people about conifers,” said ACS President Larry Nau. “And what better way than bring into our ranks the next generation of conifer enthusiasts who will soon be going into the world to spread the word about conifers in their chosen profession of horticulture, botany or the plant sciences.”
The program will also provide 100 free annual memberships to the same pool of qualified students who include a letter from their school’s registrar attesting that they are currently enrolled in a qualifying program. Nau thanked the members of the Board, staff and volunteers who helped work out the program details, especially SER President Dr. John Ruter of the University of Georgia’s Horticulture Department.
Details of the program can be found here.
